PHILANTHROPY

ABOUT
Our philanthropy is Gerontology, the study of aging, with a focus on Alzheimer's disease research. In addition we have two other philanthropies: Inherit the Earth and Maine Sea Coast Mission. Aside from our own philanthropy, we also support efforts in our community by participating in events such as the Relay for Life and Al's Run.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE RESEARCH
Using our various fundraisers, we raise money to send to the Sigma Kappa Foundation, which in turn donates the money to universities and other institutions actively engaged in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. Some of our successful fundraisers are "Sigma Kappatizers" and "Sigma Kappachino," which sell food and beverages on campus. In the fall, we host "A Night to Remember," an invitation gala that includes dinner and a silent auction. We, along with Sigma Kappas across the country, participate in the Memory Walk to raise both awareness and funding for Alzheimer's disease research.

INHERIT THE EARTH
This program emphasizes an interest in the environment and the betterment of our surroundings. By participating in activities such as Hunger Clean-Up and Make-A-Difference Day we help improve our local community.

MAINE SEA COAST MISSION
As Sigma Kappa was founded in Maine, we continue to support people in critical need in this region. During the winter months we collect supplies to send to the islands from mid-coast to downeast Maine, as well as mainland Hancock and Washington counties.
